Chosen

Since you clicked on this blog and are reading it, I believe you are chosen by God. That may sound a little kooky, but stick with me for a bit. I’m hoping you’ll come to realize you were put on this earth for a reason and it’s up to you to figure out what that is.

I’m from New Zealand, and if you read the tab titled My Story, you’ll notice the way I came to the States was a convoluted one. My journey to become a Christ follower was not a quick or easy one either. Much of that is because I have free will and made some very poor choices at times, but I believe everything happened in my life for a reason. Whether that was to develop certain skills, help build certain character traits, or so I’d have empathy for those going through similar things, I believe my life has been in God’s hands since before my birth.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Psalm 139:16

Just as I believe my steps and destiny have been directed by the Lord all along, I also believe you have been chosen and your life has been guided by God. You have been created for a specific purpose, and you have been called to fulfill that purpose. God foreknew a need was going to arise at this time in history so He created you. He allowed you to go through the things you’ve gone through, because He needed someone with your experiences and skills to fill that need.

The Apostle Paul uses the word predestined to show we are chosen ahead of time, before we make an appearance on this earth, as you see in the following two verses:

And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity].

Rom 8:30 (Amp)

In Him also we have received an inheritance [a destiny — we were claimed by God as His own], having been predestined (chosen, appointed beforehand) according to the purpose of Him who works everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His will…

Eph 1:11 (Amp)

Your life has meaning. Your birth was not a mistake, even if your parents told you it was. There are accidental parents, but no accidental children. And you haven’t made so many poor choices that you’re now disqualified from your calling, nor are you too old. God can use all things, even the bad and the ugly things, and bring something good out of them if you’ll release them to Him and be willing and available for whatever God wants to do through you.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

Rom 8:28 (NLT)

Sometimes it feels difficult to figure out what God has called us to do, but I believe if we stay in God’s Word, communicate with Him in prayer, get plugged into a Spirit-led church and into a community group, it will soon become clear, even if it’s just to those around us. Sometimes it’s easier for other people to see our gifts and strengths than it is for us to see them.

Just remember, God is all about us loving and helping other people. We are to follow Jesus’s example while He was here on earth and put others before ourselves. So, if you think you’ve got it all figured out, but it focuses on you making money or some other selfish pursuit, then you might need to do some refiguring. However, if you’re making money so you can give it away, then that’s a different story and there are definitely people who have been gifted with the ability to make money for that reason.

The main point I’m trying to get across is that you are important in the whole scheme of things. God has a special role assigned to you, a role that only you can fill. But, just like a finger that’s been chopped off, you can’t function properly in your designated role unless you’re joined to the body of Christ, a group of believers, which is His church.

Now you [collectively] are Christ’s body, and individually [you are] members of it [each with his own special purpose and function].

1 Cor 12:27 (Amp)

You are special. You are chosen. You are one of a kind and you’re here to respond to a specific need in the world. Your whole life has been getting you ready for that role. Submit yourself to God and let Him lead you into what that is. What could be more important and satisfying than fulfilling God’s call on your life?
